How Often Should You Polish Parquet in Singapore?
A simple schedule for cleaning, recoating and fully sanding parquet in Singapore homes, plus the daily habits that make a finish last.

The schedule at a glance
| Task | How often | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Sweep or vacuum | Daily or every other day | You |
| Damp mop (well wrung out) | Weekly | You |
| Polish (buff + fresh coat) | Every 3 to 5 years | Us |
| Full sanding and varnish | When the varnish wears through, often every 8 to 12 years | Us |
| Repair loose pieces | As soon as you notice them | Us |
Habits that make the finish last
- Felt pads under chairs, tables and sofas.
- A doormat at every entrance to trap sand and grit.
- No wet mopping or steam mops: water gets between pieces.
- Close curtains on sunny afternoons to slow fading near windows.
- Wipe spills straight away, especially near the aircon and windows.
Signs it's time
- Grey patches in walkways: varnish worn through, needs sanding.
- Even but dull floor: polishing (buff + fresh coat) is usually enough.
- Hollow sounds or lifting pieces: repair first, then polish.
