Parquet in Marine Parade homes
Marine Parade has HDB estates on Marine Parade, older freehold condos along Meyer Road, Amber Road and Haig Road, and newer seafront projects. Meyer Road and Amber Road have some of the oldest condos in the east, from the 1970s to the 1990s, many with solid parquet or teak strip floors. The sea breeze and strong afternoon sun fade the varnish near windows faster.
Local tip: If you've had a leak from the aircon or a window, send us a photo of any dark marks. Light stains often sand out, while deep black ones need the pieces replaced.

About Marine Parade
Marine Parade is built on land reclaimed from the sea in the late 1960s and 1970s. Before that, Marine Parade Road ran along the beach.
Marine Parade new town was built in the mid-1970s on the reclaimed land, and Parkway Parade opened in 1983.
Katong, next door, was a seaside retreat for wealthy families from the late 1800s. It's known for Peranakan shophouses and seafront mansions, many since replaced by condos along Amber Road and Meyer Road.
Landmarks
- East Coast Park – Coastal park built on reclaimed land.
- Parkway Parade – Shopping centre on Marine Parade Road, opened 1983.
- Katong Antique House and Joo Chiat shophouses – Peranakan heritage nearby.
- Thomson-East Coast Line stations – Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade and Marine Terrace.
