About Southern Islands
Sentosa was called Pulau Blakang Mati and was a British military base until the late 1960s. It was renamed Sentosa ('peace and tranquillity') in 1972 and developed as a resort island.
Sentosa Cove, a residential marina on reclaimed land on the island's east side, was developed from the 2000s. Its condos were mostly completed between 2006 and 2013.
The other Southern Islands, such as Kusu, St John's and Lazarus, are mostly parks and day-trip spots.
