About Kallang
Kallang is named after the Orang Kallang, who lived along the Kallang River. Kallang Airport, Singapore's first purpose-built civil airport, opened here in 1937.
The old National Stadium opened on the airport's former land in 1973. It was replaced by the Singapore Sports Hub in 2014.
Tanjong Rhu was once lined with shipyards. They moved out in the 1990s and were replaced by condos such as Pebble Bay, Costa Rhu and Sanctuary Green.
