About Bishan
Bishan's name comes from Peck San Theng, a Cantonese cemetery that covered much of the area for over a century. The graves were exhumed in the early 1980s to make way for the new town.
Most of Bishan's HDB estates and its first condos were built in the late 1980s and 1990s. Bishan MRT opened in 1987 and Junction 8 followed in 1993.
Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park was rebuilt in 2012, turning a concrete canal of the Kallang River into a natural river.
